Saab Technologies Ltd. (formerly Klein Systems Group Ltd.) is an international software and services company specializing in enterprise software solutions for maritime ports and pilotages. The company was founded in 1985 by Peter Klein as Klein Systems Group Ltd. It was acquired by Saab AB in 2012 and changed its name to Saab Technologies Ltd. in 2015. The company’s head office is located in Vancouver, Canada and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Saab AB. It is certified ISO 9001:2008. In 2016, Saab acquired Phaeros BVBA, a Belgian company, founded in 1999, providing off-the-shelf software applications dedicated to the port and cargo terminal industry. Phaeros’ installed base in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australia and product expertise in terminal management significantly added to the depth and expertise of the Ports and Terminals product segment of Saab Maritime Traffic Management. In addition to Vancouver, Saab now has offices  in Antwerp, Belgium and Chennai, India engaged in supplying and supporting port and terminal management solutions.

Our People

Saab Technologies’ dedicated and talented staff of over 30 people has more than 200 years of combined experience in maritime operations and related software. Its technical and sales teams have developed deep subject matter expertise in maritime business and operations practices.

Peter Behrendt – Managing Director

KleinSystems-1102-2Peter Behrendt was appointed Managing Director of Saab Technologies Ltd. in mid-2014. Before this appointment he led Saab’s Naval domain and held various senior Business Development and Product Management positions with Saab in Australia and Sweden. Peter brings a wide variety of international management experience to the organization, combined with a maritime background as a naval sea pilot and executive branch officer with the Royal Australian Navy. He has a B.Sc in Oceanography and Management from the University of New South Wales.

Pavel Skournik – Vice President Operations

KleinSystems-1005-2Pavel Skournik has been VP Operations since 2012. He has over eighteen years with the company in systems analysis and software development and has been engaged in the design and development of a broad range of pilot, port and terminal software systems including having the lead role for the current KleinPort and KleinPilot applications. Prior to joining Klein Pavel was a software developer with National Semiconductor in Israel. He has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

David Dagert –  Director Business Development

KleinSystems-1053-2David Dagert was promoted to Director Business Development in 2013. He has over six years global sales experience with Saab Technologies and over 25 years in the software industry. Prior to joining the company, he was engaged in software solution sales to the international shipping industry. David has a degree in computer science.


David Lloyd – Business Development Director

David Lloyd rejoined the company in a sales and marketing role in January 2014. He was previously with the company from 2002 to 2008 in VP and COO roles. He has over fifteen years’ experience in the software industry which followed an extensive career in commercial deep sea shipping. David has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Transportation and Finance from the University of British Columbia.

Charles Paterson – Business Development Director

Charles Paterson has been with the company since 2001. He has over 30 years of experience in the aviation and maritime transportation industries, including ten years in the shipping industry as vessel fleet operator. Charles has a BA in Economics from Bishop’s University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.


Everhardus (Van) van den Heuvel – Business Development Director

IMG_4633-001Everhardus (Van) van den Heuvel has been with Saab since 2012.  Van has over ten years of service with the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence. His career also includes senior roles in the telecommunications, industrial control and defence equipment industries.  Prior to joining Saab Technologies Van was responsible for Saab’s Naval and Public Safety portfolio for Canada.  He has a BASc. Engineering (Electrical) and MBA from the University of Ottawa.

Sheila Xu – Controller

Sheila Xu has been company Controller since 2008 and has a CPA, CGA designation. She has over twenty years accounting and three years auditing experience in global companies. Prior to joining the firm, Ms Xu was a controller with Dalian Searich Sino-British College in China. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Dalian Polytechnic University in China and a Bachelor of Business administration degree from Simon Fraser University.

Lei Zhao – Principal Software Engineer

Lei Zhao has been a member of the Saab Technologies’ development team for over ten years and is the system architect and analyst for KleinPort’s N-tier technology and application business rules. He has also been the senior team lead for the configuration and deployment of a number of major KleinPort systems. Lei has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the Southeast University of China.
