Pacific Pilotage Authority Goes Live with KleinPilot
June 3, 2008
June 2008. On June 1st 2008 the Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) switched over to their new PC based KleinPilot application, which replaces the mainframes systems Klein first implement in the 1980’s.
PPA is the crown corporation of the Canadian government that is responsible for providing maritime pilotage services to shipping on Canada’s west coast. PPA manages the services of over 100 pilots and is responsible for scheduling them to the thousands of vessel movements occurring each year in and out of British Columbia ports and through its coastal waters. The new system provides PPA with a Windows integrated dispatch and billing system operating on a single Microsoft SQL Server data base and includes a real-time web interface for public access to vessel movement data along with data interfaces to various local marine organizations. In addition to matching available and suitably qualified pilots to scheduled vessel movements, the system automates the invoicing process to vessel agents and creates the payable records for the contracted pilots performing the actual vessel movements.
