Saab Technologies Ltd. hosted its annual KleinPort Customer Advisory meetings in Darwin, Australia from August 18th to 21st, 2015. This year’s attendees included representatives from Darwin Port Corp., Flinders Ports Plc, Fremantle Ports Authority, Maritime Safety Queensland, Pilbara Ports Authority, PNG Ports Corp. Ltd. and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
The Customer Advisory meetings provide a regular opportunity for Saab Technologies management to meet with KleinPort customers and partners to exchange views and information about Saab’s product development plans and the customers’ actual experiences with their KleinPort systems.
“The KleinPort user group represents ports and authorities that hold responsibility for over 70% of port traffic in Australia,” said Peter Behrendt, Saab Technologies’ Managing Director. “We had very productive discussions including Port Collaborative Decision Making (Port CDM) concepts and the latest KleinPort developments.”
The meetings included a tour of the Port of Darwin’s VTS centre (pictured) where port staff use an integrated Saab KleinPort and Saab V-3000 VTMIS to safely manage port traffic.
The next Customer Advisory meetings are scheduled for May 24th – 27th, 2016 in Vancouver, Canada to coincide with the 2016 International Harbour Masters Association (IHMA) Congress being conducted in Vancouver May 30th – June 2nd.

Saab has commissioned its first Port Management Information System in the UK. As of September 1st, 2015, Belfast Harbour Commission commenced live operations with its KleinPort system.
The Harbour is using KleinPort to manage and track its vessel operations and services, record cargo data, generate billing and execute data analysis and reporting. Belfast Harbour Commissioners selected Saab as the system supplier after an extensive public tendering process for a new port management system.
“Belfast Harbour had identified a need for a new port management information system and had a clear vision of what this should do to best support the needs of the Port and its customers. Saab demonstrated that their solution best meets all of our needs, marrying together innovation, technology, and cutting edge industry processes. With Saab’s assistance the implementation phase has gone very smoothly, has delivered what we were looking for and has gone live on schedule and on-budget”, says Trevor Anderson, Operations Director, Belfast Harbour
“KleinPort is one of the most advanced port management information systems available today and is expected to significantly increase the efficiency of the harbour”, says Anders Carp, head of Saab Traffic Management, Saab.
KleinPort is a product of Saab Technologies Ltd. (previously Klein Systems Group Ltd.), a Saab Defence and Security company and a leading provider of Maritime Enterprise Software.
