August, 2007. The Port Hedland Port Authority has decided on the KleinPort MIS application to plan for and manage their maritime operations activities. OMC International (OMC) of Melbourne, Australia has installed its patented Dynamic Under Keel Clearance system (DUKC) to maintain minimum safe under keel clearances to Port Hedland and has brought Klein in to provide our proven vessel scheduling application and to directly interface with the DUKC application.
Port Hedland is a large bulk export port serving the mineral rich Eastern Pilbara region in Western Australia and its major export commodity is iron ore. The Port is Australia’s largest based on total annual tonnes throughput and was the first port in Australia to exceed 100 million tonnes throughput in 2004/05. Port Hedland’s major functions include the control of all shipping activities and the maximization the loaded capacity of ships through the use of world leading technologies, as provided by OMC and Klein Systems Group. System implementation is set for the first quarter of 2008.
